Queensland scientists who discovered they can restore memory in animals will trial the pioneering ultrasound technique in human patients.

The technology removes toxic plaques from the brain and has successfully reversed Alzheimer's symptoms and restored memory function in animal models, University of Queensland's Brain Institute says.

The human trials to see if it is safe begin late next year on patients with early onset dementia as the institute works to find a cure for dementia.
