Industrial Relations Minister Christian Porter is calling on the peak construction and mining union to be deregistered and is prioritising laws to make it happen.

The Attorney-General and Minister told the Australian Financial Review, deregistering the C-F-M-M-E-U is the only way to grapple with unlawful behaviour.

Mr Porter says the Ensuring Integrity Bill will make deregistering unions easier and he will reintroduce the bill once parliament resumes.

The Minister's comment follow ongoing controversy surrounding Victoria's Secretary of the C-F-M-M-E-U John Setka.

Mr Setka's Labor party membership was suspended over allegations he told colleagues anti-family violence campaigner Rosie Batty's advocacy has led to men having fewer rights.

Allegations the union boss denies.

The A-C-T-U and many other unions are calling for Mr Setka's resignation in the wake of the scandal.
