Destructive winds expected across Victoria

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast strong winds across Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat and other areas across the state on Friday.

Destructive winds averaging 80 to 90 km/h are forecast for Victoria on Friday, with gusts expected to peak above 125 km/h in alpine areas.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for most of the state including Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Horsham and Warrnambool.

Earlier on Friday, northerly winds of 87 km/h were recorded at Melbourne Airport.
