Drug dealers in New South Wales found to have supplied drugs to people who die of overdoses at music festivals could soon be jailed for up to 25 years.

The tough new laws follow the drug-related deaths of two young people at a festival in Sydney last month ((sep)).

It comes amid debate about whether to introduce so-called "pill testing"  at music festivals, a strategy which allows people to find out what exactly is in the drugs they intend to take.

Opponents of the new laws say more young people will end up in jail or pushed into poverty by fines they can't pay.

But NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says keeping people safe is her first priority.
