The federal government continues to stand by the Home Affairs Minister, after he survived a no confidence motion in parliament by one vote.

No members of government crossed the floor to support the motion.

It follows a Senate inquiry finding Peter Dutton misled parliament when he said he had no personal connections to a number of visa cases he intervened in.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the minister "is doing a fantastic job", and pointed out that when Labor was in government, they often intervened in cases.
