Eat well for a good mental health

Suicide is the leading cause of death for people aged 15 to 44 years and men are four times more likely than women to die from suicide, making up an average six out of every eight suicides every single day in Australia.

The number of men who die by suicide in Australia every year is nearly double the national road toll and the emerging scientific evidence suggests that there should be a bigger role for nutritional psychiatry in dealing with mental health. For example, studies have found that taking probiotics (the beneficial live bacteria in your digestive system) daily was associated with a significant reduction in depression and anxiety. Vitamin B complex and zinc have also been found to work much the same as antidepressants.
