Estimates Hakeem Al- Araibi

Australian Federal Police ((A-F-P)) say a lack of access to visa records from the Home Affairs department was responsible for the federal police alerting Thailand to the arrival of refugee footballer Hakeem Al-Araibi ((al-uh-ray-bee)).

Mr Al-Araibi was freed last week after more than two months in jail in Thailand.

He was arrested due to an Interpol Red Notice about him.

But Interpol says it wouldn't have done this if it knew he was a refugee, and this information wasn't available because the federal police couldn't get it from Home Affairs in time.

A-F-P Commissioner Andrew Colvin says Mr Al-Araibi's Red Notice was revoked as soon as possible after the information was available.
