Mr Foley denies the allegations and has threatened defamation proceedings against Ms Raper.
Mr Shorten says the ABC journalist deserves respect and the privacy she has asked for.
NSW Deputy Labor Leader Michael Daley has echoed those comments.
Mr Daley says he has put himself forward for the party leadership, as will Water spokesman Chris Minns.
NSW Labor will decide in a vote tomorrow afternoon [[Saturday 2pm]]

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian says she's dissapointed with the role a member of her cabinet had in publicising the allegations aginst Mr Foley.
David Elliott, the NSW minister for Counter Terrorism, first raised the allegations in parliament.
Mr Elliot is coming under criticism for doing so, given Ms Raper says she never wanted to come public at all.
