A group of more than 100 young people have reportedly thrown rocks and damaged a police car in Melbourne's north-west.

The youths, described as African in appearance, gathered at a basketball court and complex in the suburb

Police have confirmed rocks were thrown and a police car vehicle was damaged.

The South Sudanese community has condemned a group of youths who threw rocks and damaged a police car during an aggressive confrontation in Melbourne's northwest.

Community representative Maker [[mah-kair]] Mayek has told Sky News it's not a problem with the whole African community, rather a particular group of young people within it.
