Thousands have flocked to the Sydney fish market to buy seafood, which is traditionally consumed on the holiday instead of meat .

Whilst Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition leader Bill Shorten have agreed to suspend campaigning, both have made public appearances.

Mr Morrison, former Prime Minister Tony Abbott, and Labor M-P Tony Burke were amongst those who attended a service at St Charbel's Catholic Maronite Church in the Sydney suburb of Punchbowl.

Mr Morrison gave a religious reading at the service.

Meanwhile...

Mr Shorten and his family visited the Salvation Army's Lighthouse Cafe in Melbourne, where they handed out food and spoke to volunteers and visitors.

As the easter long weekend begins, police are urging motorists to take care and be mindful of speed limits.

The plee from Victoria's Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner Stephen Leane comes as the death toll on Victorian rolls approaches one-hundred.

At this time last year the number of road deaths in the state was at 58, compared to the 96 people who have died this year alone.

Victoria police have launched a high-visibility five day campaign called Operation Nexus which came into force on Thursday ((18th)).

Assistant Commissioner Leane says the number of road deaths this year is heartbreaking and needs to stop.
