High risk jobs behind work injuries among LOTE workers

A new report says that the average gross incurred cost per claim is a higher than the national average in LOTE communities, especially Arabic, Macedonian, Serbian, Spanish followed by Chinese.

The report suggest it’s because people with LOTE backgrounds are more likely to work high risk industries like manufacturing and construction – and more seriously injured.

The top 3 ethnicities (based on claim numbers) that we need to focus on are Mandarin, Arabic and Vietnamese.

Manufacturing, Construction and Accommodation, Café’s & Restaurants were the top 3 industries where ethnicity claims were recorded.

Over the 3 policy years there was a total of 2,461 ethnicity claims recorded

Where claims were recorded as having languages other than English the Average days off Work was 343% larger (158 Days off compared to 46), the Average GIC per claim was 413% higher ($69,742 compared to $16,881) and the NPS score relating to those Claims was -7 compared to the English speaking overall NPS of 13.
