A hot summer is likely ahead across Australia, but there is rain on the way for farmers in drought-affected areas of NSW, the Bureau of Meteorology says.

The bureau's latest climate outlook forecasts drier-than-average weather between December and February for Western Australia and parts of Tasmania and Queensland, with temperatures across the nation expected to be warmer than usual.

"However, eastern and central NSW, as well as eastern Victoria, are likely to be wetter than average," the bureau's outlook said.
