Police want public help as they investigate the death of a woman whose bone fragments were discovered in rock pools at a Melbourne beach.

The bones were found at Ricketts Point in Beaumaris in January last year and forensic tests revealed they belonged to a woman aged in her twenties.

Detective Sergeant Maurie Ryan says the police have exhausted many of their lines of inquiry and hope the public can help identify what could be a murder victim.
