Hundreds of Santas around the world take part in an annual Santa Sunday Dash

Hundreds of Santas bring holiday cheer to kick-off the Christmas season.

In England runners, joggers and walkers dressed in red and blue Santa outfits gathered at Liverpool's Canada Boulevard to begin the 5km Santa Dash race around the city.

Local media reported that over 1,500 competitors had registered to take part in the fun run this year.

Over in Maine, United States more than 200 people donned Santa Claus costumes and skis to hit the slopes for the 19th annual "Santa Sunday".

This year's event raised $4,000 for local charities, according the resort's website.

The "Santas" could be heard bellowing "Ho. Ho. Ho" and ringing bells as they skied and snowboarded down the mountain.
