The announcement comes just days out from Tasmania's own state election on March 3.

It also comes a month (Jan) after Tasmania's only abortion clinic closed, leaving women with no other option then to travel interstate to access the service.

Deputy Labor leader Tanya Plibersek says it's not ideal.
