Labor's candidate for the seat of Melbourne, Luke Creasey, has withdrawn after social media posts came to light that showed him engaging in inappropriate jokes about rape, lesbians and Catholics.

Meanwhile…

A Liberal candidate for the Tasmanian seat of Lyons has stood down over a series of anti-Islamic posts to social media.

Jessica Whelan maintains she did not make one of the Islamophobic comments that emerged under her name this week and has referred what she says is a doctored Facebook post to federal police.

But Ms Whelan has accepted she made some of the other posts in question and has resigned.Despite standing up for her on Thursday [[2 may]], the Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he doesn't accept anti-muslim comments.
