Dozens of people were left a little starstruck when a large meteor rocketed across the Sydney skyline on Saturday evening.

Residents in Shellharbour, south of Sydney, all the way north to Newcastle, in the state's north, reported seeing a ball of light bolt across the sky about 6.30pm.
