Man burnt after boat 'exploded' in Sydney

A 41-year-old man has sustained burns to about a third of his body after a boat caught fire near Drummoyne in Sydney's inner west.

A man is in hospital with severe burns after a boat exploded on Parramatta River in Sydney's inner west.

The vessel caught fire near Birkenhead Point Marina at Drummoyne just before 9am on Monday, creating a large plume of black smoke.

Police, paramedics and a CareFlight team attended and treated a 41-year-old man, who suffered burns to about 30 per cent of his body.

He was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
