Two people are on the run after a man was shot dead in Sydney's inner west, with his body laying in a suburban street covered by a white sheet.
A witness called police before 1pm on Friday saying the victim, believed to be in his late 20s, was staggering down the middle of the street, a police officer at the scene in Forest Lodge told AAP.
The man's body was subsequently found near the intersection of Hereford Street and Minogue Crescent. The area has been cordoned off and there's a large police presence at the crime scene.
NSW Police say they are looking for two people - a man and a woman.
Philippe, who's lived at the intersection for more than seven years, said it was usually a very peaceful neighbourhood.
"I thought when I saw the helicopter it was a hit and run," he told AAP.
There was a stabbing nearby a few weeks ago, Philippe added, but violence was rare in the area.
