A man has been tasered and arrested outside a police station in Sydney's west after allegedly wielding a knife at officers.

Two inspectors were walking towards the front doors of Granville Police Station about 7.30 am on Monday when they were approached by the man.

The officers drew their weapons but the suspect continued to walk towards them after being told to drop the knife, NSW Police said in a statement.

One of the officers tasered the man before arresting him.

He will be taken to Westmead Hospital for assessment, police said.
