Danish architects have been selected to build the long-awaited revamp of the Sydney Fish Market.

It was announced last year that a new fish market  is to be built, and the more than $250 million price tag for the new development would be paid for by selling off the old site for high-rise apartments.

Danish architects 3XN were selected from a short list of six international designers and were awarded the contract based on an indicative design.

Three million visitors, including one in every three Chinese tourists, visit the market each year, the market’s general manager Bryan Skepper said. Mr Skepper expects the redevelopment will double those figures when it completed
