The Foreign Minister has revealed details of a letter written by North Korea to Australia, urging the country to turn away from U-S President Donald Trump.

Fairfax Media reports Ms Bishop confirmed the September 28 letter from North Korea's Foreign Affairs Committee arrived via the country's Jakarta embassy.

The letter says Mr Trump's approach to foreign policy is "the height of American way of thinking that it is the best if the US is well-off at the expense of the whole world".

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has told 3-A-W radio that North Korea is the one at fault.
