China has rejected Western countries' criticism of suspected mass detention of Uighurs in Xinjiang province, saying the allegations are not factual.

China's human rights record has been debated at the United Nations, where delegations from Britain, France, Germany and the United States voiced deep concern about what China says are vocational training camps.

Activists say one million Uighurs and other mainly-Muslim minorities are being held in the camps without charge.

Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne says she will raise Australia’s concerns over the detention camps when she visits China later this week.
