Queensland is beefing up powers to stop animal rights protesters illegally invading farms in a bid to protect the state's farmers.

The state Department of Agriculture and Fisheries will form a joint taskforce with the police intelligence unit to focus on animal activism amid an escalation in illegal protesting.

Police and Agriculture department officers will also have the power to issue on the spot fines, a state government press statement says.
