Save on electricity bills in summer

1. Replace your appliances — new and more efficient appliances can use up to 75 per cent less energy than older models. 2. Dual heat/cooling air conditioners are best, while a high energy rating fridge and solar water heater will significantly cut electricity bills. 3. Draft proof and insulate the home — sealing cracks and gaps around windows and doors will help make your home more comfortable, and potentially reduce the reliance on the air-conditioner. 4. Set the thermostat — 20 degrees in winter and 26 in summer. 5. Change washing machine habits — run your clothes with the cold wash. 6. Switch appliances off at the wall — even when not in use, items like the microwave often rest in standby mode which still uses energy.
