1. What is SBS Arabic24?

 

SBS Arabic24 is a 24-hour Arabic language news service to be launched on 7 March 2016, as a 12 month pilot project.

The new service will feature the existing breakfast program ‘Good Morning Australia’, simulcast from its normal time of 6am, - 8am on SBS Radio 2 as well as a new Drive program from 4pm -6pm, and specially curated content from SBS PopAraby and the BBC World Service’s BBC Arabic Service.

The new service is aimed at Australia’s highly diverse and rapidly growing Arabic-speaking population, and ensuring they have access to trustworthy, informative and unbiased news and information around the clock and as such deliver on SBS’s Charter to promote social cohesion within Australia.

 

2. How do I access it?

 

You can access SBS Arabic24 via SBS Radio’s mobile App: available on both iOS and Android devices, as well as on digital radio - simply search for the name SBS Arabic24 on your digital radio device - and online at sbs.com.au/arabic24.

The SBS Radio mobile is free and can be downloaded via the App Store or Google Play.

Already have the SBS Radio app?  You will need to update your mobile app to see the new SBS Arabic24 station which replaces SBS PopAraby. 

The service will also be available on digital TV within a few months of launch.

 

3. Will streaming audio chew up the data on my smart phone?

 

Data usage, when streaming live or catch-up audio via the SBS Radio app and website, varies depending on your device and connection.

As an estimate you can expect to use*:

Live audio stream: 30MB per hour

Catch up Audio Stream: 45MB an hour

Podcast: 40 MB an hour

*The above numbers are estimates intended as a guide only. Actual data usage will vary between users.

In comparison, 5 minutes of online video streaming uses approximately 50 MB of data. 

4. How to listen on the SBS Radio App

 

The SBS Radio App is available for download for both Apple iOS and Android phones from the Apple and Google Play App stores, and it will give you 24/7 access to SBS Arabic24

 

If you already have the SBS Radio App on your smart device, you will need to update your App from March 7, to make sure you can easily access the new SBS Arabic24 service.
