Some ministers have completely new portfolios, whilst some have undergone minor adjustments to their previous titles.

They've been sworn in at Government House in Canberra by the Governor General, Sir Peter Cosgrove.

The first minister to take the oath of office was leader of the Nationals and deputy prime minister Michael McCormack.

Meanwhil, deposed prime minister Malcolm Turnbull will quit federal parliament this week.

He's told his supporters at an electorate conference that he'll resign on Friday.

Mr Turnbull has been the member for the safe Liberal Party seat of Wentworth, in Sydney's east, since 2004.

A by-election to elect his replacement is expected on the 6th of October.

Under those circumstances, new prime minister Scott Morrison will face two weeks of federal parliament sittings without the Government having a majority.

Mr Turnbull's former deputy prime minister, Barnaby Joyce, has criticised Mr Turnbull for leaving the government vulnerable.
