NSW Police Force said a crime scene had been established around the grisly find in the Yarratt State Forest.

A Rural Fire Service crew initially stumbled onto the remains, which police believe are human, about 6am after putting out a small fire on Yarratt  Rd.

A police spokesperson said officers from Manning-Great Lakes Local Area Command were now investigating, but it’s believed the remains belong to an adult.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to confirm identity and cause of death, they said.

Anyone with further information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
