Police in Paris have shot a man who shouted "this is for Syria" as he attacked a police officer with a hammer outside the Notre-Dame cathedral.
The attacker was shot in the chest and is being treated in hospital while the police officer suffered minor injuries.
French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb says the police acted quickly.

A students group says an increase to the minimum wage will make no real difference to the struggle faced by young people.
The Fair Work Commission has ruled the minimum wage will rise to $694.90 per week from July.
That's an increase of $22.20 per week.
It increases the hourly rate by 59 cents, to $18.29 an hour.
But National Union of Students president Sophie Johnston has told the A-B-C that's not enough.
