Two people apprehended during counter-terror operation near Melbourne church

Victoria Police have released a statement that insists there is no threat to the community, despite reports of a counter-terror operation near a Melbourne church.

Two people have been arrested by counter-terrorism police in North Melbourne following a police operation, but authorities have insisted there is no "current or impending threat to the community". 

Victoria Police confirmed he counter-terrorism force was called to Queensberry St on Friday afternoon, but declined to provide further details.

"The Joint Counter Terrorism Team Melbourne can confirm it is conducting operational activity in North Melbourne," the statement read.
