Unemployment welfare cuts

The federal government says people on unemployment benefits could lose their benefits if they fail to attend job interviews or look for work.

Parliament last week passed new laws allowing the government to cut welfare payments for up to a month if people don't meet the new requirements.

Minister for Social Services Dan Tehan says people on unemployment benefits need to make sure they meet the new standards.
