Voluntary assisted dying may soon be possible in Western Australia.

The state government has announced plans to introduce a bill in parliament next year.

An 11-member expert panel, chaired by former West Australian governor Malcolm McCusker, will help draft the bill.

Health Minister Roger Cook says it's important any legislation strikes the right tone.

M-Ps will be allowed a conscience vote, where they can vote on the bill according to their own beliefs, rather than party policy.
