Visiting Shanghai, Australian Trade Minister Steve Ciobo (CHO-BO) says trade ties with China remain strong despite a recent souring in relations with the major trade partner.

The trip is an attempt to repair ties between the two countries, which have been tested over the past year, partly over Australian concerns about rising Chinese influence, leading Canberra to propose legislation banning foreign political donations.

The trade minister was immediately responding to a fresh challenge in China, as Australia's Treasury Wine Estates - the world's biggest listed winemaker - faces delays getting products through Chinese customs.
