Between the traditional Arab home and the absolute freedom of Australian society, a new generation of Arabs is growing up, experiencing complex contradictions that are rarely allowed to be expressed.
From the moment they taste freedom after graduating from school and expanding in the world of social media, to advocating for causes that affect them, and making crucial decisions related to marriage and work… Many milestones shape this generation's identity and raise difficult questions about belonging, freedom, customs, and traditions.
In this context, the SBS Arabic podcast Youth Matters provides a space for Arab youth in Australia to tell their stories in their own voices and share them with their peers. This series reveals the challenges faced by second and third-generation Arab migrants that touch on the details of their daily lives.
The podcast is presented and co-produced by award-winning journalist Maram Ismail, along with five journalists and producers who have distinguished themselves over the years in addressing issues affecting the Arab community in Australia and have been honoured at numerous local and international events in recognition of their work.
