Ruqaya Abed is a skilled in both painting and sewing , and her work is strongly informed by her experiences as anew migrant and the need to maintain her own identity whilst embracing her new life . She is passionate about her roots and is aware of the importance or art as a powerful instrument of self expression and for building bridges across cultures . Ruqayah Abed's fashion show is currently in the "Shanasheel" the Iraqi Cultural festival, which runs until September 9 at Fairfield City museum & Gallery .
