More than 200 Commonwealth Games athletes and officials have remained in Australia after applying for various visas, with another 50 illegally overstaying.


A Senate committee has heard that of the 8-thousand-103 people who arrived on visas for the games, 7-thousand-848 have left the country.

Under questioning from the committee, Malisa Golightly, of the Department of Home Affairs, has told the committee around 200 people are waiting to have their applications for other visas assessed.
