New South Wales rail workers have voted to begin industrial action tomorrow (thurs). Members of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union were debating the latest offer proposed by Sydney Trains management, holding a text message ballot to decide whether to go ahead with the overtime ban as well as a proposed 24-hour strike on Monday (Jan 29) over pay and conditions. Officials say of some 6,000 text messages sent out, they received only around 360 "yes" responses.* The Union's State Secretary Alex Claassens (kla-sens) says he's following his members' wishes.
