Women and children are emerging as the worst affected as asylum seekers fill out claims to avoid deportation ahead of an October deadline.

 The non-negotiable October date was announced by the federal government in May.  The application process involves filling out a form of more than 40 pages, including an entire residential history.  Government payments for those who are not successful with their applications will cease and they will be subject to deportation. Sarah Dale, a solicitor at Sydney's Refugee Advice and Casework Service says single mothers are particularly vulnerable as they are required to fill out forms for every child.
