Liberal Senator Dean Smith says proposed amendments to same-sex marriage legislation are "spurious and unnecessary." Several government M-Ps, including the Prime Minister, have said they will consider changes put forward by their conservative colleagues. Labor will oppose any amendments, as will cabinet minister Christopher Pyne. Senator Smith has told the A-B-C, he believes current laws are fine as they are.
