The Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) fears the May budget could deliver savage cuts to the social protections of the nation. ACOSS Chief Executive Cassandra Goldie says instead of flagged company and personal tax cuts, a top priority should be to lift the social security safety net. Dr Goldie says when it comes to tackling disadvantage, flexible community driven approaches are needed.
