The government defends its delay in setting dates for the five federal by-elections.

The date of the by-elections in the West Australian seats of Perth and Fremantle, Longman in Queensland, Braddon in Tasmania and Mayo in South Australia are yet to be set, but are expected in July.

Labor frontbencher Anthony Albanese [[AL-ban-EEZ-ee]] has suggested the government is delaying the dates on purpose.

But Senator Fifield has told Sky News the  Speaker wants to ensure issues such as candidates holding dual citizenship is an issue.
