Gas Supply

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews says the way to beat Australia's gas shortage and high prices is to reserve it for local use. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has warned east coast gas prices are still too high and supplies are tight while producers in South Australia, N-S-W, the A-C-T, Victoria and Tasmania are forecast to produce insufficient gas next year. Mr Andrews says the reserved gas can be used for businesses and households and whatever's left over can be exported for the value its worth to rest of the world. Opposition Leader Matthew Guy says the ban on conventional gas exploration is hurting businesses. ###
