Our correspondent from Dohuk-Iraq, Naseem Sadiq says the checkpoints stop villagers going into the villages and specially when they have cars or trucks loaded with food and groceries. The Government says they have to check the loads in fear of they might be used to supply the PKK forces who frequently sneak in the villages to acquire food and supplies.
Mr Sadiq says the shops in the villages are empty and grocers need to fill the shelves so people can shop and buy their daily needs of food and groceries.
The government troops at the checkpoints, question the villagers before passing the checkpoint, to make sure the supplies will not be used by the PKK fighters. This questioning causes a lot of delays and sometimes confiscation of the goods.
