The Assyrian Cultural Association is organizing a Musical Evening on 21st Feb 2020 at Assyrian Sports and Cultural Club, Fairfield Heights. The association has presented many cultural and artistic activities, including honoring university students and honoring the late writer Daniel Benjamin. It has set up an exhibition of children's drawings and now is organizing this musical evening.
Secretary of the association Mr Abdal Abdal said the goal is to focus on the role of the music in our nation, as music is associated with our lives, our pain, our love, and all aspects of our daily life.
He said that in going back to history, we find some people do not know that a number of musical instruments, such as the Kanun and wind instruments, originated in Mesopotamia, as they are part of our heritage.
"We wanted to evaluate the role of music and preserve our musical heritage".
He added: "We would like this evening to be a gesture for more distinctive concerts ...”.
Mr Abdel also said that many of our people’s musicians in Sydney will participate in this evening ... by playing with the Saz, Violin, Organ, Guitar and Oud.
He declared that they were unsuccessful in introducing the Zurna instrument due to the preoccupation of the musician specialized in this instrument.
He stressed that there will be an introductory part on music in the history and heritage of our people.
