COVID-19 update: New lockdowns for Greater Sydney, western NSW and ACT

This is your update on the Coronavirus in Australia for 12 August 2021.



  • More areas in NSW under tighter lockdown restrictions

  • ACT enters lockdown from 5pm

New South Wales
NSW has recorded 345 new locally acquired cases, with at least 60 in the community while infectious. Two men in their 90s died due to COVID-19.

Bogan, Bourke, Brewarrina, Coonamble, Gilgandra, Narromine, Walgett and Warren local government areas have been added overnight to the NSW's list of locked-down areas.

Bayside, Burwood and Strathfield are subject to extra COVID-19 restrictions from 5pm, bringing the total of Sydney’s local government areas in lockdown to 12.

Victoria
Victoria has recorded 21 new locally acquired cases, out of which four are not linked to known outbreaks. Six cases were in the community while infectious.

Minister for Jobs, Innovation & Trade Martin Pakula announced additional support for more than 100,000 metropolitan Melbourne businesses affected by the second week of lockdown.

  • Queensland records 10 new locally acquired cases linked to known outbreaks and quarantined while infectious.
  • QLD Premier Palaszczuk says South Australians can come to Queensland by air and warns residents not to cross the border into NSW.
