Almost 190,000 people are in the queue, and the Federal Government says that is why applications are now taking almost a year and a half to be processed.


Sona Iplani has lived and worked in Australia for five years.

She, her husband and their 11-year-old daughter have wanted to officially call themselves Australian since the day they landed in Sydney from India.

From the outset, Ms Iplani says, they knew the process of making that dream a reality would be daunting, with lots of paperwork and even more waiting.
