Hoxton Park Public School organised a food collection at the school premises to help people affected by the bushfires. Carmen Lazar was one of the volunteers and she told SBS that she was expecting more participation from the Assyrian community, but may be the message was not delivered to the community well enough. She believes that Assyrian organisations should collaborate together to make an event to raise aid for the people affected by the bushfires. Mrs Lazar believes that this is the least we can do to show our appreciation to Australia and to show that we are part of this beloved country.
