Many people are facing hefty fines from the police simply because they are unaware of the COVID-19 restrictions rules or they are ignoring them.

Although most of the community members are abiding to lockdown restrictions and curfew, one of the biggest issues the authorities are facing are the small number of people who don’t stick to the restrictions and rules that been put in place to minimise the spread of the virus.

Assyrian community in Sydney have been very obedient and sticking to rules, however, there are some who don’t.

Manager of Assyrian Resource Centre, Carmen lazar talks about some instances were people have broken the rules and have been fined.

Mrs Lazar sends a message to members of the community to be aware of hefty fines when breaking the rules. When Mrs Lazar met Fairfield police, she was told about some people who were fined for breaking the rules.

Here are some instances police told Mrs Lazar:

Families been order to self-isolate because they were infected, police drive by to check on them if they are self-isolating and find them outside the boundaries of their house, two members of the family were fined $5000 each.

One person walks out of his house, and his friend from down the road is exercising and they meet then they talk and start walking together.

Police see them walking too close to each other and after inquiring the were found in breach of the rules because they are not members of one household fined.

Another incident, a person walks out of his house, just in the front of his house and on the pathway, not wearing a mask, thinking it is ok, police drive by, see him and fine him.

Mrs Lazar is asking members of the community to familiarise themselves with lockdown restrictions rules and abide by them.
