Immigrants arrived in Australia up until last week, must self-isolate for a period of 14 days according to the current laws. These new arrivals need legal advice on (new and old laws) to solve their problems. But at this stage, they can only do it over the phone. Those who receive different fines and who have pending problems with government agencies are asking whether they need legal advice or not.

Ms. Nohara Odisho, who works as Legal Aid / Refugee service community engagement officer, says that migrants find it difficult to communicate with government agencies such as Centrelink and others, so we work to help them, especially when they need legal advice to solve their problems.

She added that the government has issued laws and restrictions on stopping the spread of COVID- 19, so we are working on issuing a factsheet that contains clarifications about the laws which at this stage there are sixteen of them.

She stressed that we ask people to follow the instructions to avoid infection, then the legal problems facing them will be dealt with.

She said that these days are difficult ones, especially during Easter,  but we recommend staying at home and that will contribute to reducing the chances of spreading the virus and eliminating it as soon as possible so we can return to our normal life.
