Manager of Assyrian resource centre Carmen Lazar spoke to SBS about the activities and businesses it is doing to help the newly arrived refugees (before lock down) and meeting their needs. She said that all communications and calls to the centre are diverted to her mobile phone and she looks at requests and try to solve any issues.
The centre is using ZOOM applications to conduct interview with clients and many of the centre's clients have are easily getting used to the technology.
Many citizenship classes are run remotely using sessions through Zoom application.
Mrs Lazar also talks about the community support program and said that the Australian government has accepted many applications and is permitting them to come to Australia but the problem is the countries the are living in, do not allow them to travel. Also due to covid-19, there is a less demand on migration applications, thus, Carmen Lazar said that the answer of acknowledgement of the received applications does not take more than two days.
